Spiders Morning Jolt 2/26: Gold Medals!

The track and field team picked up three gold medals in the Atlantic 10 Championships.

Good morning. It’s National Set a Good Example Day, and that’s exactly what we’ve got in this Jolt. The Spiders dominated in so many sports this past weekend, setting a great example for the athletics program.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Golden. The track and field team competed in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, picked up nine podium finishes, and earned three gold medals to finish second overall. Kyra Keurentjes earned an individual gold medal, and the 4×800 meter and 4×400 meter squads earned gold. 👟 Here are more results from the meet.

🔼 Final Conference Swim. The swim and dive team placed second in the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Spiders made five podium visits, including a first-place finish from Melissa Nwakalor in the 50-meter freestyle. 🏊 Here are all of the swimmer’s times.

🔼 Undefeated Weekend. The baseball team saw its first wins of the season against Mount St. Mary’s (Md.). The Spiders won 8-2, 7-6 and 9-8. Jake Elbeery had his first home run of the season for the eighth run of the first game. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth in game two, Zach Lass hit a single to bring one run home and take the lead and win. Joey Wilga got the game-winning hit in the third game to capture a series sweep for the Spiders.

🔼 Tight Win. The men’s basketball team defeated Davidson in a tight game on Saturday night. The Spiders won 66-63, and Jordan King got the last three points of the game to take the lead. King had 15 points overall, and DeLonnie Hunt was right behind with 14. 🏀 See how the Spiders pulled out the win here.

🔼 Win #2. The men’s lacrosse team won its second game of the season after an 18-2 victory over St. John’s. Zach Vigue had 15 saves in three quarters. Luke Grayum led the team with three goals and an assist. The team scored the most goals, eight, in the third quarter. 🥍 Here’s more about the win.

🔼 Even Record. The women’s tennis team beat George Mason 4-0 and sits 1-1 in conference play. The team had three straight double wins. The women also had three wins in singles with one unfinished game. 🎾 See each match score here.

Still Undefeated. The women’s lacrosse team stayed undefeated after beating Liberty 18-11. The Spiders were in the lead the whole game, and Grace Muldoon and Alexis Morton led the offense with four goals each. Ali Susskind and Leah Kenny each had a hat trick. 🥍 See who else scored here.
