Spiders Morning Jolt 2/16: Hat-Trick City
Three women's lacrosse players scored hat-tricks at the home opener win.

🔼 Home Dubs. The women’s lacrosse team dominated Old Dominion 19-3 for its home opener win. The team began the game with nine first-period goals and didn’t stop there. We had three Spiders score hat-tricks: Colleen Quinn, Grace Muldoon and Alexis Morton. 🥍 See who else added goals for the victory.
🔼 Only Going Up. The women’s basketball team just kept improving each period against VCU. The Spiders had a slow seven-point start, then got 14 points in the second and third periods and ended with 30 points in the fourth to take home the 65-58 dub. Grace Townsend led the team with 23 points and is the first Spider to surpass 1,000 career points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists. 🏀 Read more about the win here.

🔼 GPA Greats. The 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association named 11 Spider field hockey student-athletes to the NCAA Division I National Academic Squad. To be on the squad, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year and be nominated by your NFHCA member coach. 🏑 See which Spiders made the squad.

His First! This men’s tennis player just earned his first weekly honor of Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Performer of the Week. He is undefeated on singles court No. 6 with a 3-0 mark on the year.

Doing it Again. The swim and dive team have a two-week break to prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championships. In the meantime, honors are still being given. Melissa Nwakalor earned A-10 Swim and Dive Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks. She swam a personal best of 1:05.77 in the 100 breaststroke. 🏊 Read more about Nwakalor here.
