Spiders Morning Jolt 4/15: Semi-Final Clinched

The women's lacrosse team clinched its spot in the A-10 Championships.

🔼 Spot Clinched. The women’s lacrosse team beat George Washington 16-7 to clinch an automatic bye to the Atlantic 10 Championship semi-finals on May 3rd. Alexis Morton led the Spiders with eight points from four goals and four assists. That is a career-high for her in each category. 🥍 See who else scored here.

🔼 Series Dub. The baseball team won its series against George Washington 11-8, 3-2, 12-2. Aaron Whitley hit his sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning of game one. The Spiders had a walk-off win for game two. Jack Arcamone’s RBI drove in two runs to tie the game and Connor Larson pushed a bunt past the pitcher for Aidan O’Keefe to score and win the game. The team had a season-high seven stolen bases in game three. This is Richmond’s first Atlantic 10 Conference series sweep of the season.

🔼 Sweep! The women’s tennis team started its weekend with a sweep over Saint Joseph’s 7-0 on Saturday. The Spiders picked up the doubles point and went on to win all six singles matches. The women also beat George Washington 4-1. The team won the doubles point and three singles matches.

🔼 D-Up. The men’s lacrosse team had a strong defense against High Point and won its game on Saturday 9-5. The Spiders held High Point to a season-low five goals. Jack Pilling played a big role in the team’s defense with a career-high five caused turnovers. 🥍 Read more about the win here. 

🔼 Home Wins. The men’s tennis team faced George Mason and shut them out 4-0. The Spiders won the doubles point and won five singles matches. Next, the men took on Fordham where they won 4-0. The team ended the 2024 campaign with a 13-7 record and a 6-1 mark in A-10 action.

Lead the Way. At the women’s lacrosse game against George Washington, Alexis Morton added four assists to her stats. She currently leads the team in assists this season.

🕷️ ONE BIG THING

Taking the Lead. The track and field team competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational and posted first-place finishes in the 4×400 relay and 400m. Virginia Beringer ran a 56.72 to win the 400m. She was also in the first-place relay group with Elke Van der Westhuizen, Gabrielle Cummings and Morgan Lyons. 👟 Read more about the meet here.
