Spiders Morning Jolt 3/10: Seventh Heaven

Spiders Baseball Sweeps Weekend Action, Extends Win Streak To Seven

Good morning Richmond Fam. As the weather starts to heat up, so is the Richmond baseball squad.

Four-game weekend sweep. Seven straight victories. 14-2 overall. Yeah, we’d have to say that’s red hot.

What else are we mixing into today’s edition?

⚾️ Seventh Heaven
🥍 House Defended
🏀 Tourney Time
🕷️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Seventh Heaven. You could say it was the offense (48 runs in four games). You could say it was the pitching (7 runs allowed in four games). Or you could just say it was both.

Whatever the formula, the Richmond baseball team is using it all as the Spiders rolled to a four-game weekend sweep to extend their win streak to seven and improve to 14-2 overall.

The Spiders started the weekend with an 11-1 victory over UMass Lowell, followed by a 9-1 win over Lafayette. Another victory over UMass Lowell, this time 12-2 and a 16-3 weekend finale over Lafayette rounded out quite a weekend at Pitt Field.

🔼 Grand Opening. There’s no other way to describe Saturday’s Atlantic 10 opener for the Richmond women’s lacrosse team than “grand”.

Senior Grace Muldoon reached the career milestone of 100 goals and classmate Colleen Quinn tied a career-high with six goals of her own to lead the Spiders to a 20-4 rout of visiting George Mason.

The 16-goal margin is the largest in a game since Richmond cruised past William & Mary, 20-4, on Feb. 15, 2023.

Ten Spiders contributed to scoring goals, and 15 players tallied points on the day.

🔼 House Defended. An old school ESPN anchor might use the term “En Fuego” when it comes to the recent performance of Max Merklinger.

After setting a career-high with four points in Tuesday’s win against Mercyhurst, Merklinger followed it up by taking it to another level with six points (five goals, one assist) in a 14-8 victory over visiting UMBC on Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium.

Merklinger was followed in points by Lucas Littlejohn, who had four (3 goals, 1 assist), and Evan O'Neil, who tallied three (3 assists). Aidan O'Neil (2 goals), Joe Sheridan (2 assists), Henry Alpaugh (2 goals), and Leo Caine (2 assists) each contributed two points.

🔼 Hardware Haul. Hopefully the Richmond women’s track & field squad left a little room in their luggage because they are bringing home some hardware from Boston.

Competing against some of the best the region has to offer, the Spiders finished second at the ECAC Indoor Championships over the weekend.
