Spiders Morning Jolt 11/27: Undefeated Weekend

Today, we're looking at the Spiders winning every game this past weekend.

Good morning. We hope you watched all of the Richmond games this past weekend because they were all DUBS! That’s right, the Spiders dominated in football and men’s and women’s basketball.

What else are we mixing into today’s edition?

🏈 Playoff game one: win
🏀 Men defeat Queens
🕷️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Finish Strong. The Spiders dominated North Carolina Central and exploded in the second half for a 49-27 win in the first FCS playoff game. The dynamic duo of the game was Kyle Wickersham and Nick DeGennaro, who connected for the first two touchdowns. Savon Smith ruled the third quarter, scoring twice, including on a 65-yard punt return.

Jerry Garcia Jr. caught a 71-yard pass for a touchdown to start the fourth quarter and ran in his second touchdown. Smith recorded his third touchdown of the game off of a 24-yard run. Next up for the Spiders is the second-round playoff game against UAlbany on Saturday at noon. 🏈 Read more about the win here.

🔼 Kings of the Court. The men’s basketball team beat Queens 90-61, and Jordan King and Neal Quinn both hit over 20 points. King scored a game-high 24 points, and Quinn had 21. This is the third straight game King has reached 20 points and he has an average of 20.3 points per game this year, which is the most by a Spider through the first six games of a season since Terry Allen in 2015. 🏀 See what other players contributed here.

🤔 SPIDERS TRIVIA

Our Home, the End Zone. The Spiders practically lived in the end zone in their game against N.C. Central. The team recorded its most points, 49, in a postseason game in a long time.

Today’s question – when was the last postseason football game with this many points?

First, the Spiders took down Maine in a 77-43 win where Maggie Doogan shot 9 of 13 from the field. Next was a 74-66 win against Drake. The Spiders snapped a Bulldog eight-game home win streak dating back to 2022-23. Addie Budnik led the team with 17 points, which marked her 65th career-game scoring in double figures.

Finally, the Spiders beat Louisiana Tech 83-56. Doogan led the team again with 21 points, and Rachel Ullstrom followed with 15 points. The team shot 51.8% from the field and 53.3% outside the arc. The Spiders are now 6-1 on the year.
