Spiders Morning Jolt 3/5: Women’s LAX Welcomes #14 UVA Tonight

Good morning. The women’s lacrosse team hosts No. 14 UVA tonight! The game is at 7pm. Come to cheer on the Spiders!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 2 Big Ones. The women’s basketball team notched two awards in the major categories of Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Maggie Doogan was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, the All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team. Head coach Aaron Roussell picked up back-to-back Coach of the Year honors. Rachel Ullstrom was named to the All-Conference First Team, and Addie Budnik to the Second Team and All-Academic Team. 🏀 Learn about each honor.

🔼 Only Took Seven. The baseball team beat Towson 14-3 in just seven innings. The Spiders jumped out strong, scoring four runs in the first and second innings. Brady O’Brien hit a two-run homer. Connor Larson went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. ⚾️ See who else scored.

🔼 Took ‘Em Down. The men’s lacrosse team beat Mercyhurst 23-3. The 20-goal margin of victory marked the largest in program history. The 35 total points with 23 goals and 12 assists tied for the sixth-most in a single game for the Spiders. Leo Caine led the team with five goals. 🥍 Read more about the win.

🔼 Triple Threat. The men’s and women’s golf teams had three athletes earn conference honors. Carson Baez earned Rookie of the Week, Cole Ekert earned Men’s Golfer of the Week and Olivia Wilkie was named Women’s Golfer of the Week. ⛳️ See how they all performed recently.

Aaron Roussell was named a World Exposure Report Mid-Major Head Coach of the Year Semi-Finalist, and Jeanine Radice was named a World Exposure Report Mid-Major Assistant Coach of the Year Semi-Finalist. The coaches have led the women’s basketball team to a 26-5 overall record this season. The Spiders went 17-1 in conference play and won 16 straight games. The team begins play in the Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday.

Settlement. The University of Richmond is opting into the terms of the House v. NCAA settlement for the 2025-26 school year. Spider Athletics will begin providing direct payments to men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes for the use of their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL). Here’s more about the settlement.
